Hiya guys! Hope you’ve had a great
week!
This week I fancied doing a wee ‘hashtag
throwback’ post, as about five years ago now I went to Barcelona with my Uni
class for a five day study trip! As I said in my first post, I studied
Interior Design, so this trip was about seeing all the amazing architecture and
interior design - not to mention visiting lots of lovely places and eating
yummy food!
In this post I’ll do a sort of daily photo
diary kinda thing. But, before I begin, I just want to explain when I realised
I really wanted to visit Barcelona, and why this was the BEST trip ever…
Let me take you back 11/12 years ago…I’m
sitting in my Standard Grade Art class ‘trying’ to write an essay about Antoni
Gaudi, but instead just flipping through the book pages and looking at all the
pictures - imagining how AMAZING it would be to sit on the squiggly mosaic
bench of Parc Guell, how GREAT it would be to go inside the unfinished Sagrada
Familia cathedral, and how MAGICAL it would be to see Casa Batllo all lit up at
night…
So yeah, ever since then it had been
on my bucket list and I got to put a big fat tick next to that! Honestly, when
I found out I had the chance to go on a wee trip to Barcelona, I was super excited
and as soon as I got home I was jumping about like crazy! I know that sounds a
bit sad but to be fair I’d been wanting to go for so long, so I was totally
looking forward to it!
Anyway, I should get started on this
post!

Day of travelling – Left Glasgow at
2pm and got to Barcelona at about 5:30pm!

First touristy-sight-seeing day! La Sagrada Familia!
This was amazing to go see! The
amount of detail on the exterior is crazy…so SO detailed with sculpture all
over.
The building was still under construction, so there is still a lot of scaffolding around.
We got a chance to go up to the tower
to get a rooftop view of the city. You don’t realise how tall the building is
until you get to the top and see the view! Breath-taking!
It was brilliant to see the city from that height!
Next stop – Parc Guell!
I loved it here! It’s so chilled, you could literally spend the whole day here. It would probably take the whole day to go around, actually. It’s a huge place.
Unfortunately, we never really had
that much time here because we had other places to see before dinner. We had a
good walk around though. And, I got to sit on the mosaic squiggly bench J
We went for a walk along Passeig de
Gracia to look at the lovely lit up buildings such as Casa Batllo and La
Pedrera (Casa Mila).

Before the sight-seeing stuff, the
class visited a design studio - which was great to see!
We then took a walk through Diagonal
Mar Park to go visit the Forum Building.
Unfortunately the Forum building was
closed, so we could only see the exterior.
The thing I love about Barcelona is
that everywhere is arty and there is sooo many things to see. It’s amazing.
After, this we went to Cuitadella
Vila Olimpica to see Frank O. Gehry’s fish at the beach!
We got to have a wee paddle in the
sea too! The beach was lovely!
Next, we went to Montjuic. We got
there by taking a funicular railway ride – this is basically like a tram that
travels up and down steep slopes. On the way to Fundacio Joan Miro (CEAC) we
got to see views of the Font Magica (the magic fountain of Montjuic) which was
spectacular.
The Fundacio Joan Miro (CEAC) is
quite a cool museum, very modern with quirky work!
We then walked to the Caixa Forum,
which was an Art Nouveau textile factory now converted into a social and
cultural centre.

First visit of the day was to an
architectural studio where we got a talk from one of the architects.
We then
took a walk through Barri Gotic (Gothic quarter) to head to the Laie Museu
Picasso (Picasso museum).
The Santa Caterina Market was next,
before lunch.
After lunch we went to La Pedrera
(Casa Mila).
After that the group had a choice of either
shopping or more sight-seeing. Obviously, I chose more sight-seeing! S o the
class lecturer took me and another student to the MACBA - Museu d’Art
Contemporani de Barcelona (Barcelona museum of Contemporary Art).

Last day in Spain :(
Palau Guell was the first stop in the
day’s itinerary.
The next stop was to the Salvador Dali
Exhibition. I love Dali’s work, so getting to see an exhibition of his work was
fantastic!
That was all for that day, as we had
to get sorted for leaving the lovely city!
Well that’s basically it for this ‘hashtag
throwback’ post to five years ago!
I would definitely recommend going to
Barcelona, because it is such a lovely place! I would absolutely go back!!
Okay guys, that's all from me this week! Have a fab week ahead and take care!
